Today the children faced the rainy weather and raised money for CAFOD. The children took part in a whole class Scooterthon, we scooted and cycled around the school play ground for 40 minutes! The children were red in the face and so tired, but so proud of how hard they had worked to raise money for CAFOD. It was great to see the Year 6 buddies helping their little friends, ensuring they stayed safe during the activity and they even counted how many laps their buddy did. We were amazed to find out some children did 68 laps around the playground. How fantastic! A huge thank you to all the parents who sponsored us.
Visit to Tesco - Fark to Fork Trail
This week the children visited TESCO for the Fark to Fork trail. The children were given the opportunity to try lots of different food, see how bread is made and wrapped, learn about different vegetables they may have never seen before, see how to prepare a fish and how the food is stored safely in store. The children returned to school with many interesting facts and with a goody bag! What a great morning!’
Visit to Stockley Farm
Last week we visited Stockley Farm, the children fed baby lambs and goats, road a tractor, enjoyed a nature walk, visited pigs, cows and got to stroke many animals in pets corner. The children really enjoyed themselves it was a wonderful day and thank you to all the parents who volunteered to make this trip so special.
Animals, Habitats and Lifecycles
During our topic 'Animals', the children have been learning all about different types of animals, habitats and lifecycles. In class we hatched 7 beautiful chicks and we watched them grow for 2 weeks, it was a fabulous experience and the children loved playing with them.’
The children took part in a Rocket Race during our maths session. The children designed and made the rockets, to see which would fly the furthest. The children threw the rockets and measured how far they flew, we had great fun!
Chinese New Year
The children celebrated Chinese New Year in class and create a dragon style dance during PE. They then performed the dance throughout the classroom and playground it was wonderful!
Tatton Park, Father Christmas & The Mansion
On Friday 9th December we went on our first school trip. We visited Father Christmas at Tatton Park, we all received a little gift and spoke to him about our Christmas wishlist. We then went to visit lots of animals at the farm, we even saw Prancer and Dancer in the fields! In the afternoon we walked around the Mansion which was dressed to celebrate Christmas in the style of Roald Dhal, it was beautiful. The children had a wonderful day and their behavior was exemplary the tour guide of Tatton Park commented on how happy, cheerful and lovely the children were. What a fantastic day!
Letters to Father Christmas
This week the children have worked so hard writing their letters to Father Christmas. The children have used their phonics skills to segment and blend their Christmas wish list. Their finished work was fantastic we are so impressed. As a treat our year 6 buddies came to post our letters to Father Christmas at the local post box, we sang Christmas songs as we marched down the road! When we got back to school we all sat down for our Christmas Dinner, it was a wonderful morning!
Over the last few weeks, Reception have been busy recreating the Nativity Scene for our stain glass windows. The beautiful artwork was created for the Friends of Handforth light box which is located at Handforth station. The children and teachers are so impressed with how beautiful it looks at nighttime. Well done to the children! If you would like to visit the artwork it is on display at Handforth train station during the Christmas period.
This term we have been learning all about God's World and God's Family. We went on a welly walk to look at the autumnal changes and to see how magnificent God's world really is.
Radio 5 Visitor
Today we had a very special visitor in Reception. Mr Dan Maudsley (Lucas' Daddy) a Radio 5 Broadcaster. Mr Maudsely taught the children all about the radio and what kinds of things we listen to such as sport, news, music and stories. Our Reception class received a special message from two of the CBeebies presenters wishing us luck with our radio recording. Mr Maudsely helped the children to record their own story on to 'Reception Radio'. Miss Gordon read the story 'Doris the Dog' and the children created their own sound effects such as splashing in the water, running in a dog race and snoring on the sofa' The children had an absolutely wonderful time and it was a brilliant experience.
Mr Maudsley is very kindly editing the story and the sound effects to create a short clip for us to listen back to. We are so pleased! Thank you again Mr and Mrs Maudsley, it was great fun for all!’
Visit from a Rugby Player
Reception were very lucky to have a rugby lesson for Mr Weller Hauraki (Taya's dad) who plays for Salford Red Devils. Weller taught us how to throw and catch a rugby ball properly and even how to score a try! We had a fantastic morning, thank you to Mr Hauraki!
On Friday the children all dressed up as scarecrows and sang Dingle Dangle Scarecrow beautifully for the whole school to celebrate Harvest. The children looked wonderful and we were so proud to see them dance and sing so confidently. Thank you to all the parents for the donations to Hampers for Hope and for making such a brilliant effort with the costumes.
In Religion we have been looking at the story of The Creation. The children during a Collective Worship added different parts of the story to create a large picture of the world God made.’
Fire Service Visit
Today Cheshire East Fire Service came to visit us as our topic is People Who Help Us. The firemen showed us how to keep safe around bonfire night and gave us a tour of their fire engine and uniform. We had a wonderful time!’
