Dear Parents,
Wow! What a great year we are having so far, it is great to see the children progressing socially and academically. The children are settled into routine and are happy making new friends and learning lots of new things! We are very excited about the coming year and are looking forward to working with the children and providing lots of exciting activities for them through which they can explore and learn. Book Bags: Book bags must come into school every day with your child’s reading book and reading record. Any money/letters should be placed in a clearly marked envelope. Books: There will be an opportunity for your child’s reading book to be changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. As well as clearly stating if your child has finished the book or if you would like to continue reading the book, please record any observations regarding your child’s reading in the reading record. It is so important that your child reads at home, by reading at home with your child you are providing them with an opportunity to apply their new phonic skills at home. We will be working through phase 3 phonics and learning the tricky words: he, she, we, me, be, was, are, they. We have been securing numbers 1-10 and we are now working on numbers 11-20, it would be great if you could also practice this at home. E.g, by asking your child to count out 11 grapes or by asking them to find the number 12 around the house. PE: We have PE on a Friday, please can you ensure your child’s PE kit is clearly labelled and in school for PE. You can provide your child with a fleece/jumper however if it is cold/wet we will make sure your child has their coat on, if it is outside. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform. Earrings and trainers are not part of our school uniform and should not be worn to school. Please don’t hesitate to come to us with any questions or queries you may have. We are sure that your child will continue to have a fantastic first year at St Benedict’s.
