World Book Day 2016
World Book Day 2016, thank you to all the parents and children for making a fantastic effort with their costumes
We had a lovely time learning all about the lifecycle of chickens and watching our chicks hatch from eggs!
This week we have taken part in a maths trail we have been learning about measure through our big Rocket Race and capacity through our bucket race. We have had a great time.
This week the children have been writing letters to Father Christmas. The children wrote their letters and on Friday we all walked to the post box to make a wish and send our letters. The children tried very hard writing such long letters and enjoyed singing Christmas carols on the way to the post box. What a lovely morning!
Over the last few weeks the children have been working very hard to make christmas tree decorations for a Christmas tree competition at Alderly Edge Methodist Church. Mrs Browne and Miss Gordon decorated the tree on Thursday and the children can go and visit the tree at the church over the weekend. We are very proud of the children's hard work, the tree looks beautiful!
‘The second part of the trip, the children were able to stroke and feed lots of animals at the farm. We also went for a walk around the mansion which was decorated beautifully for Christmas. The children really enjoyed themselves and had a great time!’
On Thursday we went to Tatton Park to meet a very special man, Father Christmas. The children behaved beautifully and all received a little gift of Father Christmas. We sang songs and listened to Christmas Stories. We had a wonderful time!
In preparation for Diwali and our lantern parade the children were given the fantastic opportunity to take part in an Indian dancing workshop. The children learnt traditional Bhangra dancing which originates from North India. In class the children created their Diva Lights out of clay and using traditional patterns. The finished pots look fantastic on display outside the classroom.
This week we came to the end of our topic ‘people who help us’. We were so lucky to have a special visitor Fireman Cwiklinska who came to talk to the children about life as a fireman and how to keep safe over Bonfire Night. The children sat and listened beautifully and asked lots of questions. We had a brilliant time. Mr Cwiklinska surprised the children with three more visitors and a very special vehicle a FIRE ENGINE! The children were able to sit inside the fire engine whilst the firefighters showed us all the different parts of the engine. We were very lucky, the firemen left some of their uniform in our classroom so we could dress up as firefighters for the rest of the day. What a wonderful end to our topic, thank you to Mr Cwiklinska and the Cheshire East Fire Service.’
Mrs Everett and Mrs Bond helped the children create emergency vehicles using junk modelling. The children decided what they wanted to make and how they wanted to make it. The finished vehicles are fantastic!’
On Thursday Reception went on a Wellie Walk around the school grounds. We collected leaves and autumnal plants to use to create hedgehogs for our classroom display. We even kicked and threw leaves to see how fast they would fall. It was a fantastic morning, we had such fun!
We have had great fun in Reception learning numbers, letters, shapes, using the Beebots, meeting our Year 6 buddies, listening to stories written by Year 2 and we have even found time to use the parachute and be firefighters! We really have been busy!’
We have had a very busy first few weeks in Reception and we have made lots of great friends!
