Dear Parents and Children,
Welcome back to the final term. This term will be exciting and busy; The majority of year 4 will be attending the Robinwood residential, we also have our school trips to the Halle and Delamere Forest and Sports Day.
In science we are continuing to learn about sound, Identifying how sounds are made and recognising that vibrations from sounds travel through a medium to the ear.
In Religious Studies we are going to be learning about Belonging to the Church. In this topic the children will learn what it means to belong to the Church community. They will explore the nature of community, the importance of identity and commitment, and relate this to the Sacrament of Baptism and the Creed.
In Numeracy we will continue to work on the four operations, using the Shanghai maths syllabus to develop a deeper understanding of concepts. We shall continue to focus on multiplication. It would be extremely helpful if you could practise any times tables with your child that they do not know, working on one table at a time. By year four children should know their 2,3,4,5,6,and be working on their 7 and 8 times tables. We shall then move on to applying our knowledge in a range of investigations and worded problems.
In Literacy we are looking at the story of the witches to help us develop our story writing, character descriptions and paragraphing structure.
In Art and music we will take inspiration from artists, refining our skills and techniques whilst expanding our knowledge through composing and writing in music, in art we will focus on Monet, the style and history of his paintings and in particularly the water lilies picture for inspiration.
As always, Homework will be handed out on Wednesday and should be returned no later than the following Monday. Homework usually consists of spellings, a piece of topic or literacy work and a piece of numeracy work.
However it is assumed that you read at least three times a week and practise times table with your child every week. Children should ideally know their times table well enough to answer any question without having to count through the table to reach the answer.
As always the school website has an array of games to support your child's learning and I shall continue to add to this as I come across things.
PE slots this term are on Thursday and Friday, the children should have their full indoor and outdoor kits in on these days.
Please do not hesitate to make an appointment to see the Year Four Team if you have any concerns.
