YEAR 4 HOME PAGE
Welcome back to the summer term! I hope you had a lovely Easter break.
Our religious focus for this term is The Mission of The Church. During this topic, we will be learning about the mission that Jesus gave to his followers, how Saints Peter and Stephen helped to spread the Good News by their lives and deaths, and to know the story of the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
Our topic this half term is The Romans. During our literacy lessons, we have been learning about the legend of Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome. Over the coming weeks we will be working towards writing stories with a historical setting. In addition, many of our literacy lessons this half term will be cross curricular with topic lessons on the Romans and ICT lessons as we will be creating Roman iMovie videos.
Our current numeracy focus is angles and direction. We have been learning to identify different types of angles (right angles, acute angles and obtuse angles) and have begun to measure and compare the size of angles. In addition, we have been practicing directional language in order to rotate shapes about a grid. We will then work on choosing and using appropriate calculation strategies to solve one and two step problems, before finally undertaking topics on properties of shape and measures.
We are very excited to be starting swimming lessons in year 4 this term. These lessons will take place every Friday morning from 9.45 - 11.45. I hope that the children enjoy these sessions and find them beneficial to their confidence in the water.
Exciting curriculum enrichment oppurtunities this term will also include a visit to The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester to play our glockenspiels with the Halle orchestra, and a trip to the Grosvenor Museum in Chester to learn more about the Romans.
Finally can I thank you all for your help and support so far this year. Please do not hesitate to make an appointment to talk to me if you have any questions or concerns.
