Homework Expectation in Year 2

  • Read 5 times a week
  • Spelling sheet
  • Numbots and Collins Ebooks (10 minutes 3 times a week ).  Children should be accessing both story and challenge in Numbots.

Staying Sharp with Maths:

It is important for all children in Year One to have high fluency with some key concepts of Year One maths, namely:

Recognising all common 2d and 3d shapes,

Knowing number bonds to 5, 10 and 20 with quick independent recall (without manipulatives or support)

Knowing all eight facts any three numbers can make. So for example, 7, 4 and 3 can be used to make:

3+4=7, 4+3=7, 7=3+4, 7=4+3,

7-3=4, 7-4=3, 3=7-4, 4=7-3

Reading:

Children are expected to read 5 times a week and bring their reading record to school each day. Every time your child reads, please record this in their reading record as we check these daily and give the children a stamp.

Home Learning:

Numbots     Children should be using Numbots daily to improve number bond recall.

Every week the children are given a spelling assignment to consolidate class learning- a spelling sheet is sent home to practise this.

Collins Ebooks  Every week, a book your child has read with the teacher in reading lessons will be assigned for you to read together.

PE Days:

Tuesday and Friday;

Children wear their school PE uniform to school on those days.

Snacks:

Children are provided with fruit or vegetable options daily in class for morning snack.

You can purchase toast for the term for a small charge.  If your child is having toast, there is no need to send a snack in.

If you wish to send a snack in, please choose a healthy option (they can bring in a small treat on a Friday).  Please note that we are a nut free school so please check labelling carefully for presence of nuts to ensure safety for all.
