Welcome to Year 5!
A very warm welcome to all our Year 5 parents and carers!
We are delighted to begin another exciting year of learning, discovery and growth. Year 5 is an important year for the children as they become increasingly independent, develop their confidence and prepare for the challenges of Year 6.
This page will be a useful place to find important information, updates, homework, key dates and ways you can support your child’s learning at home.
PE Days
Tuesdays and Thursday.
Please ensure your child are wearing a full, correct PE kit for these days. Any jewellery must be removed or covered and hair tied back. These rules ensure the children can safely participate in their PE lessons.
Homework Expectations in Year 5
In Year 5, we ask children to complete the following each week:
Reading – Read regularly at home and aim to read at least 5 times a week.
Spelling Shed – Complete the weekly spelling assignment to practise and consolidate the spellings taught in class.
Times Tables Rock Stars – Practise times tables regularly to secure rapid recall and confidence.
Understanding Feelings in Year 5 💛
Year 5 can be a time of lots of change for children. As they grow and develop, hormones can begin to fluctuate, which can sometimes lead to big feelings, changing moods and emotions that can feel difficult to understand or manage.
To support the children, we will be using Zones of Regulation regularly in school. This gives children a simple way to recognise how they are feeling, understand that all feelings are okay, and explore strategies that can help them feel more comfortable and ready to learn.
We will encourage the children to notice, name and talk about their emotions, rather than feeling that they need to hide or suppress them. Our aim is to help them develop the emotional awareness, language and strategies they need to become increasingly independent in managing their feelings.
We really appreciate your support at home too. Talking openly about emotions and reminding children that it is okay to have big feelings can make a huge difference. 💛
Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to a fantastic year together!
